Karen Brophy Chief Executive Officer
As the CEO of LAKANA, Karen is responsible for overall strategic direction, management and day-to-day operations for LAKANA’s platforms, products and services. She leads LAKANA’s teams and offices in Angeles, St Paul and New York and has extensive strategy, revenue, product management and team building experience.
A seasoned publishing executive with over 20 years of business, product and operations experience, Karen specializes in developing and implementing multi-platform growth strategies for media and technology companies. Her broad-based experience in product, technology and revenue includes programmatic advertising, content, business intelligence/analytics engineering and infrastructure.
Prior to LAKANA, Karen’s experience includes seven years as SVP of Digital Strategy and Operations for Hearst Newspapers, where she built out their centralized digital revenue and operations from scratch. As a platform technology leader, she has designed, built and deployed enterprise publishing systems for major media companies including The Financial Times and Time Inc. As an engineering and product executive, she led and managed the teams at Yahoo! News, Tribune, Spin Media and the New York Times.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College. She has also pursued her graduate degree from Columbia University in Education and Technology.
Ron Parsons Head of Product
As Head of Product, Ron oversees LAKANA’s product strategy and roadmap. He brings more than 20 years in the digital news space as a journalist editor, and product development executive for brands including Yahoo! News, Tribune, Hearst and Gannett .
Most recently, Ron served as a strategic and tactical product consultant for two major newspaper chains, leading various projects and initiatives ranging from paywall integrations to social sign-on technology deployments to front-end responsive redesigns.
In his decade-plus career at Yahoo!, Ron helped launch and subsequently grow the core Yahoo! News properties into large-scale audience and engagement successes. As Associate Managing Editor for Yahoo! News, he was responsible for building a home-grown CMS from the ground up to meet the needs of the Yahoo! News sites, which ranged from highly automated feed processing, curation, and display tools, to very manual, editor-driven capabilities. He also directly managed a large team of editors and producers.
He started out as a reporter and editor, then transitioned to digital producer roles at newspapers in Tucson, AZ and San Antonio, TX. Ron was named a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellow in 2007 and spent a year at the University of Michigan researching digital news technologies. Ron lives in Huntington Beach, CA, with his wife KC and pitbull-boxer mix Reddington. He enjoys playing soccer, going to music festivals, and Broadway musicals.
Elizabeth Osder Head of Revenue
As the Head of Revenue, Elizabeth Osder is responsible for market and business development, platform strategy and potential growth through acquisitions at LAKANA. As an executive and consultant she has 20 years building businesses for publishers, brands, agencies, technology companies and start-ups.
Elizabeth’s diverse experience includes consulting for Google, Ogilvy Mather, AOL, Kimpton and Associated Press; successful exists to start up technologies to Marketo and OpenX to launching of The New York Times on the Web; helping make Yahoo News the number one online news destination; deploying the publishing system for The Financial Times; tackling emerging trends in social media that deliver real user engagement, plus forging the application of semantic technologies to both relational content display and monetization.
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Mount Holyoke College and she has also earned a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Missouri. In 2001 Elizabeth was awarded a John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford University where she studied technologies and communications. She resides in Los Angeles and counts being the first girl to play little league baseball as her most cherished accomplishment.
Ravi Tummala Head of Engineering
As the Head of Engineering, Ravi leads product strategy and defines technology solutions for LAKANA. Ravi is responsible for delivering market-leading products and applications and growing IT initiatives to meet LAKANA’s strategic business goals.
With 20+ years of experience in information technology, product development and organizational strategy, Ravi specializes in building and leading high-performance teams to develop fully-scalable systems and applications. He draws from extensive experience in architecture, design, e-commerce, cloud-hosted SaaS and PaaS platforms, IoT, ISP connectivity, web hosting and business process automation, ad serving and digital content and media distribution.
Prior to LAKANA, Ravi held senior leadership roles at digital, technology and IoT companies including VP of Engineering at myDevices, VP of Software Development at United Online, Director of Technology at Sony and CTO at JTurbo.
Ravi earned an Master of Science in Computer Science at George Mason University. He lives in Los Angeles with his family.
PJ Anzalone Head of Platform Operations
As LAKANA's Head of Operations, PJ Anzalone provides operational leadership for the organization, including Professional Services, Client Services, Training, Support and news and editorial services. With a continuous goal to streamline operations, he tirelessly works with teams to improve processes, while enhancing the experience of LAKANA’s clientele.
With 20+ years of digital media experience, PJ specializes in operational efficiency, performance management and audience development. He’s held several management positions within Lakana – providing exceptional customer service along the way. Before joining Lakana, PJ was a veteran of the cable industry, developing digital toolsets to enhance employee performance, and launching digital products including high-speed internet and digital phone services across the country. Early in his career, PJ launched some of the first newspaper and television news sites in the country.
PJ is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication, with a dual Bachelor of Arts in Newspaper Journalism and Political Science. He resides in Minneapolis with his family, and enjoys hiking, volunteering as a Master Gardener, and rooting (in vain) for the NY Mets.
